NORLIGHT OFFERS BUSINESS CONTINUANCE SOLUTIONS TO HELP RECOVER CUSTOMERS’ CRITICAL IT APPLICATIONS.

MILWAUKEE - (January 4, 2002)Norlight Telecommunications, an employee-owned, Wisconsin-based provider of integrated data solutions for businesses, announced today the addition of their suite of Business Continuance Solutions. Business Continuance provides Norlight’s customers with a way to recover critical network systems after an unexpected outage.

From network and site recovery to local access and e-mail recovery solutions, Norlight’s new service covers almost all-possible scenarios. These recovery solutions are important to companies that rely on the transfer of data to suppliers, customers and remote offices. Many times, the failure of critical network systems will have these companies losing money every second their systems are down.

“The amount of money lost when critical IT systems go down varies based on the business type and the industry, but in many cases it can be astronomical,” said Kamlesh Sethi, Norlight’s Business Continuance product manager. “When critical company IT systems are down, damage can rise to tens of thousands of dollars per hour, and for companies like brokerage houses and credit card companies, hourly damages can be in the millions.”

The solutions that Norlight offers will help these businesses save money if their systems fail by rerouting traffic, recovering everything from their sites to local access to e-mail.

Business continuance, sometimes referred to as disaster recovery, is nothing new but has been receiving more attention since the September 11 terrorist attacks. Although major disasters like attacks can cripple IT systems, many businesses are realizing that it doesn’t take an event such as September 11 to shut them down. Fires, floods, tornadoes and even disgruntled employees can cause major damage to a company’s systems, reputation and eventually its bottom line. “The financial burden is not the only worry when dealing with outages,” said Sethi. “If downed systems cause communication problems with customers and investors, a company’s image could be tarnished, and a tarnished image can be much harder to restore.”
